ALTRINCHAM’S famous platinum jubilee Corgis are being sold off after becoming a royal hit during the celebrations.
The 50 life sized Corgis displayed around the town to celebrate the Queen’s historic milestone, were being brought together at The Bowdon Rooms on Thursday June 30 to be auctioned.
The auction was being hosted by Darren Proctor from Happy Radio. Proceeds from the event will support community art projects in Altrincham through Inch Arts.
The town wide art trail was organised by Altrincham BID, who produce VisitAltrincham.com, and Inch Arts. The Corgis have been on guard throughout the town.
The exhibition includes contributions from Britain’s best loved punk poet Dr John Cooper Clarke, Russ Meehan aka Qubek best known for his Mancunian Bees murals, and internationally acclaimed contemporary textile and fibre artist Alice Kettle, along with many other talented artists, community groups and schools.
Mandy White, Altrincham’s BID manager said: “We have been overwhelmed by the popularity of the Corgis and our thanks goes to all the artists and businesses who have supported the project.
“We could not believe the immediate demand for places at the auction and have had to move it to a bigger venue to accommodate all of those wishing to attend.
“It has been fantastic to see so many people around the town enjoying the Corgis, if you haven’t yet seen them yet, we’d really encourage you to make a trip to Altrincham.”
